Mets Reported Trade Policy With Yankees is Petty and Stupid
By Brendan Azoff

The New York Yankees are in the market to acquire starting pitching, and the New York Mets are in the market to trade away a couple of their starters in order to bolster their farm system.
Despite the apparent match between the Yankees needs and the Mets surplus, a deal between the cross-town rivals remains unlikely due to a ridiculous 'policy' the Mets allegedly have in place.
For those dreaming about any NYY-NYM trade potential, the Mets' M.O. not long ago was that if there were similar trade proposals — one with Yankees, one elsewhere — they'd want Yankees to pay a premium. Mets aren't keen on helping crosstown rival or seeing a player thrive there.

The Yankees would be forced to pay a premium if their offer is similar to that of another interested party, something the Bombers won't be keen on doing.
The Yankees have made a living the past few years of acquiring under appreciated talent for next-to-nothing and swindling teams, something that may give the Mets an uneasy feeling when it comes to making a trade with them.

Despite the policy, the Mets would be wise to hear the Yankees offer and if it is the best on the table to accept it. Their stubbornness has enabled repeated failure to occur at Citi Field for several years now, and it is time for the Mets to start the rebuild the proper way.
Could we see a trade between the two foes happen? Sure. But the likelihood of it happening remains slim at this point.
