Mets Reportedly Discussing Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte Deal With Pirates
By Jerry Trotta
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte has been at the forefront of trade talks throughout the offseason, and those discussions don't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
Brodie Van Wagenen and the New York Mets have previously been linked to the former All-Star and the rumors have reportedly been rekindled over the last 24 hours.
The Mets, per Mike Puma of the New York Post, are considering offloading outfielder Brandon Nimmo in a potential deal for Marte, but would want additional pieces to help offset their contrasting salaries.
Nimmo emerged as a fan favorite in Queens after a promising 2018 campaign, but he took a significant step back this past season as a lingering neck injury limited him to just 69 games.
Given the Mets current surplus of outfielders -- Nimmo, Michael Conforto, JD Davis, Jake Marisnick, and (potentially) Yoenis Cespedes -- any trade for Marte would likely come at the expense of an OF currently on their roster.
And if recent reports are indicative of anything, the Amazins appear willing to deal Nimmo for the right price.
With the Yankees grabbing all of the spotlight in the Big Apple after their signing of Gerrit Cole, don't be surprised if BVW acts on impulse and flexes his muscles on the trade market.
