Mets Reportedly Have 'No Issue' Trading Zack Wheeler to the Yankees
Even though history says otherwise, MLB sources are claiming the Mets would have no problem dealing Zack Wheeler to the highest bidder, even if that team happened to be the Yankees.
The Bombers are reportedly interested in adding Wheeler to their rotation, while the Mets are expected to be sellers at the trade deadline.
There should be no shortage of teams seeking Wheeler's services at the deadline, as the Mets starter will be one of the more talented arms on the market. Wheeler has logged an unimpressive 4.42 ERA this season, but has shown improvement in his last three starts, surrendering just 4 earned runs and striking out 20 batters across 19.1 innings of work.
He showcased his tremendous upside during the second half of the 2018 season, during which he went 9-1 with a stellar 1.68 ERA and 73 strikeouts across 11 starts. He allowed just 14 earned runs through 75 innings of work in what was truly a phenomenal stretch for the 29-year-old.
The Mets and Yankees have never been known to be amicable trade partners, but a rumored deal involving Noah Syndergaard this offseason began to change that narrative. Both general managers insisted that this was progress in a reluctant history to trade with one another, even though the deal ultimately fell through.
Wheeler's days as a New York Met are likely numbered, and while many teams will be interested in acquiring his services, it seems the Yankees are at the forefront, eager to add a pitcher to their inconsistent rotation.
Wheeler may not be a Met for much longer, but a move to the Bronx should not be counted out.
