Mets Reportedly Showing Interest in Pirates OF Starling Marte
By Ian Anderson

Could the team from Flushing be ready to pull off a blockbuster this winter?
The New York Mets reportedly have interest in Pittsburgh Pirates Gold Glove center fielder Starling Marte. A trade for Marte?
Mets have interest in Starling Marte. Fits what they seek — strong defender in CF, righthanded hitter. Pirates still working on manager. Uncertain if he’ll be dealt. Cubs, Reds, Padres among others who will look at center fielders.

It's clear the Mets are ready to be serious players in the NL East once again, especially with such a strong starting rotation.
A division loaded with the Braves, Phillies, and reigning World Series champion Washington Nationals, Marte could be just what this club needs.
The center fielder is in the prime of his career, coming off of a season where he hit .295, along with a career-high 23 home runs. If he lands in Flushing, Marte could slot in at the No. 2 spot of the batting order, moving Rookie of the Year Pete Alonso into the No. 3 spot.

New general manager Ben Cherington has his work cut out for him, as the Pirates seem to be in rebuild mode.
Marte moving seems to be the most likely option this winter, but if he does remain in Pittsburgh on Opening Day, expect trade talks surrounding him to continue throughout the season and at the trade deadline.
