Mets Reportedly Sign All-Star Outfielder Matt Kemp
By Adam Weinrib
The New York Mets have an outfield depth problem (to put it minimally), and it seems they're looking for yet another comeback out of a Comeback Player of the Year to get things fixed.
Matt Kemp is heading to New York on a minor-league deal, and will likely rub elbows with Tim Tebow in Triple-A Syracuse.
At the time of his release in early May, Kemp was stuck on the IL with a broken rib, and has been rehabbing since.
There wasn't a fit in Cincinnati, following a blockbuster offseason deal that brought Kemp, Yasiel Puig, and Alex Wood in to revolutionize the Reds locker room (hint: it did not work).
Kemp's been known for alternating strong years with major steps back, but the Mets could do much worse than taking a flyer here; as New York are missing Jeff McNeil, and are nursing Michael Conforto back from a concussion, which could have lingering effects.
There's no harm in adding an All-Star, when given the chance, after all.
