After a seemingly endless stream of bad news, something has finally broken the Mets' way!

The New York Mets have signed the 89th overall pick from the MLB Draft, high school right-hander Matthew Allan, who was originally thought likely to be a Florida Gators freshman in the fall.

Allan was considered a first-round talent by many scouts, but teams were hesitant to pick him due to what seemed to be a rock-solid commitment to Florida.

For the Mets to flip him and get him to sign is an absolute steal. The two parties agreed to a deal worth $2.52 million, more than quadruple his slot value. In a season where so much has gone wrong, at least something has finally gone right.

Allan's fastball is widely regarded as one of the best to come out of the 2019 draft. Sitting in the mid-90s, it has the potential to be a quality pitch at the major league level.

The fastball is complemented by a 12-6 curve that has some nasty bite and could be a strong put-away pitch in the future.

He may not be able to help the Mets right now, but he's definitley going to be a prospect to keep an eye on as he develops down in the farm.
