Mets Reportedly Sign Veteran Right-Hander Michael Wacha

The New York Mets are looking to bolster their starting rotation following the departure of Zack Wheeler, and it seems they have locked down a potential replacement.
The Mets have reportedly signed veteran right-hander Michael Wacha, according to Jon Heyman.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post was the first to report that the two parties were close to an agreement.
Wacha, 28, is coming off a rough 2019 campaign in which he recorded a 4.76 ERA in 29 appearances (24 starts). He was relegated to the bullpen after a rough string of starts, but ultimately found himself back in the Cardinals' rotation at season's end.
The one-time All-Star logged career-worsts in K/9, BB/9, FIP and WHIP in 2019, but will be looking to rebound in 2020 as a back-end member of the Metropolitans' rotation.
It'll be a prove-it deal for the veteran, who was inked for just one season and is expected to make $3 million in guarantees, with a potential spike to as much as $10 million through incentives.
Wacha, interestingly enough, is represented by CAA, the agency formerly operated by current Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen.
In seven MLB seasons, Wacha has a 59-39 record with a career 3.91 ERA and 7.9 K/9. The Mets are hopeful he can rebound from his shaky 2019 season and return to his All-Star form, or somewhere close to it, in 2020.
