Mets RHP Jeurys Familia Lost 30 Pounds in Hopes of Bouncing Back in 2020

The 2019 season was one to forget for the Mets' bullpen -- particularly Edwin Diaz and Jeurys Familia. Despite having lofty expectations entering the campaign, both relievers struggled mightily.
Well, Familia seems set on bouncing back in 2020 and has taken care of his body in the offseason. Familia says he's dropped 30 pounds since the 2019 campaign ended, slimming down from last year's 270 pounds to a more appropriate 240.
Familia featured in 66 games for the Mets last year, posting a career-worst 5.70 ERA and had a 1.733 WHIP to match. He struck out 63 batters across 60 innings of work.
Familia claimed that the added weight impacted his pitching ability, hindering his delivery and rhythm.
Considering the $11 million Familia is owed in 2020, the Mets will be hoping his offseason weight loss will help him rediscover his previous All-Star form.
Familia was anticipated to be a key back-end member of the Mets' bullpen last year, but his struggles ended up seeing his role relegated to middle innings duties.
Hopefully his decrease in weight will result in a decreased ERA as well in 2020.
