Mets Scratch Brandon Nimmo for Additional Cardiac Testing and Plan Announcement Soon
By Brady Williams
At around noon on Wednesday, the New York Mets declared Brandon Nimmo as a late scratch for their game against the Houston Astros. At first, the absence wasn't explained, but per Newsday reporter Tim Healey, the team has released a statement.
They report that Nimmo has been recalled for further cardiac testing by the team's cardiologist. The move seems to be something that was planned, but couldn't be addressed until today. His return should be determined after testing is complete. He has no known history of cardiac issues.
The outfielder was previously removed from the lineup on Saturday after being hit by a pitch, and his absence continued into Sunday. He returned Monday, but at no point has his injury been disclosed to the public.
Nimmo has been replaced by Ryan Cordell, who was assigned to the minor league Syracuse Mets in January.
Nimmo missed a portion of last season after being placed on the 60-day injured list for a bulging disc in his neck. He did not play from May 21, 2019 to Sep. 1, 2019.
