Brandon Nimmo's recovery process just hit a massive snag.

The New York Mets have shut down Brandon Nimmo completely from baseball activities for the next month as he continues to deal with neck issues.

The standout outfielder was initially recovering from a bulging disc in his neck. He recently received an epidural. Manager Mickey Callaway said that "There hasn't been any talk of surgery" for Nimmo.

In 43 games in 2019, Nimmo slashed .200/.344/.323 with 3 home runs and 14 runs batted in.

His absence has left the Mets short-staffed in the outfield, especially in center. They've had to play the likes of Carlos Gomez and Juan Lagares there without him.

This is the exact opposite of the year the Mets expected out of their rising star. 2018 was a glimpse of Nimmo's full potential, a year in which he posted a .404 on-base percentage and slugged 17 home runs.

To say 2019 has been a nightmare by comparison would be a massive understatement.

Hopefully the hiatus from baseball gives him the chance to heal fully. Otherwise, the Mets will have a serious outfield debacle on their hands moving forward.
