Mets Sign Former Cubs Reliever Brad Brach
By Parker White
The New York Mets have been the hottest team in baseball, and on Thursday they made an addition to their much-maligned bullpen.
According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, the Mets have signed right-handed reliever Brad Brach, formerly of the Cubs.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets have placed outfielder Brandon Nimmon on the 60-day injured list, and to make room on the active roster they optioned left-handed pitcher Donnie Hart to Triple-A.
Brach, 33, was designated for assignment by the Cubs less than a week ago when Cole Hamels came off the injured list, and after clearing waivers he was released. If you ask Cubs fans, Brach should've been let go a lot sooner, and when you look at the numbers you can understand where they're coming from.
In 42 appearances out of the Cubs bullpen, Brach owns a 6.13 ERA and 1.76 WHIP with 45 strikeouts over 39.2 innings.
We'll see if this helps or hurts the Mets bullpen, but everything they've done lately has turned into gold.
