Mets Sign Former Yankees and Cardinals Reliever Chasen Shreve to Minor-League Deal
By Adam Weinrib

For a man who's generally been his team's 24th or 25th rostered player over the course of his career, Chasen Shreve has certainly found himself plenty of notoriety these past few years.
An effective lefty in 2015 with the Yankees, Shreve alternated successful seasons after his debut campaign, but was stuck in a monstrous rut midway through 2018 and finally lost his roster spot when he was dealt to the Cardinals for... Luke Voit.
After a year and a half in St. Louis, Shreve's time in the back end of the 'pen has once again ended, and he'll pick up, well, right where he left off last summer! The Mets are taking a flyer on Shreve as a minor-league depth option.

No harm, no foul.
Shreve has always been a high-strikeout arm at his best, uncorking nasty changeups with regularity, and even whiffing 46 in 38 innings in the Bronx during a checkered 2018. The arm talent is there; he just can't quite find the consistency year-to-year.
Chasen Shreve is a “low risk high reward” signing until he blows 5 games in two weeks and gets relegated to mop up duty

No one needs more 'pen help than the Mets, though, and we'll see if Shreve can once again carve out a niche in the city he recently called home.
