Mets Sign Veteran 1B Matt Adams to Minor League Contract
By Michael Luciano

The New York Mets added some major thunder to their organization when they signed one of the best free agents left on the market to a minor-league contract.
The Mets agreed to a deal with former Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams, who earned himself a championship ring with the Nats last season.

Adams might not be the best fielder in the world, but that power will play in any lineup. Adams slammed 20 home runs in a limited role with the Nationals last season, but was cast aside after Washington opted for Eric Thames in 2020.
If he makes the big league roster, he'll make for a valuable backup to Pete Alonso if he needs a day off.
Mets have signed Matt Adams to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Obviously no room for Adams on the Nationals with the Eric Thames signing. Had a solid stretch last season but was plagued by shoulder issues down the stretch/in the playoffs.

Adams probably should have earned himself a contract at the MLB level, given how he has produced in recent years, but he's instead opted for the minor league route. This could be a steal for the Mets, as there aren't many minor league guys who hit 20 MLB home runs the year prior.
