Mets rookie sensation Pete Alonso is ready to contribute to history both on and off the field, as he plans to donate his special commemorative 9/11 cleats to the 9/11 Memorial Museum, just after wrapping up his quest for the most home runs in a single MLB season by a rookie.

Alonso is nearly there, sitting one homer shy of Aaron Judge's 52, which Judge set with the rival Yankees in 2017. The 24-year-old is about far more than on-field accolades, though; he famously ordered these special cleats for the entire team, and even though his request to wear commemorative hats was threatened with a fine, Alonso took the risk with the cleats anyway.

Alonso has already won the Mets fanbase over with his talent and personality, showing all the facets of a star in the making. Not only is he the favorite for NL Rookie of the Year, but Alonso also leads the entire league in home runs this season.

Although the Mets' 2019 playoff hopes have been dashed by the Brewers picking up a few wins this week, New York has a bonafide star in Alonso, who's all class and beloved by the city.
