VIDEO: Tim Tebow Confirms the XFL Contacted Him to See if He Wanted to Play
By Jerry Trotta
Tim Tebow's pipe dream of receiving an MLB call-up from the New York Mets appears to have run its course, even though the 32-year-old outfielder was retained by the organization for a fourth season ahead of the 2019 campaign. Given the evident lack of optimism surrounding his future with the club, there was talk that Tebow could spurn the Amazins in an effort to revive his football career in the XFL. Well, the former NFL signal caller confirmed just that in a recent interview at Spring Training.
Tebow's fortitude is inspiring, but you really have to ponder if his faith is blinding him from facing the truth. The Florida product spent the entirety of last season at Triple-A Syracuse, and to say that he struggled would undersell his woes. In 77 games, Tebow registered a .163/.240/.255 slash line with four home runs and 19 RBI.
We're not saying that it's a surefire guarantee that the former Heisman winner would light up the XFL, but one would think that he'd give a little more thought to walking away from baseball.
Whatever the case, Tebow appears prepared to ride out another season with the Metsies. The XFL will just have to wait.
