Mets To Decide Between Eduardo Perez and Carlos Beltran For Manager Job
By Michael Luciano
After canning Mickey Callaway following two disappointing seasons, the New York Mets finally have a light at the end of the tunnel with regards to their managerial search.
The Mets have narrowed their search down to two candidates; former All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran and ESPN analyst Eduardo Perez.
Beltran, who played more games for the Mets than any other franchise, is currently a special advisor to GM Brian Cashman with the New York Yankees. He has stated that he was only interested in the Mets job.
Perez, the son of Hall of Fame first baseman Tony Perez, has worked with ESPN since 2014. The success of Aaron Boone and the Chicago Cubs hiring David Ross has made another analyst like Perez a sought-after commodity.
The Mets were interested in Minnesota Twins bench coach Derek Shelton and Washington Nationals first base coach Tim Bogar, but ultimately axed them after another round of interviews.
Either Perez or Beltran will be earning their first managerial experience in the MLB, and the Mets are inching closer to revealing who their next skipper will be.
