Teams Have Reportedly Reached Out to Mets Regarding Possible Yoenis Cespedes Trade
While New York Mets slugger Yoenis Cespedes has not stepped onto a major league diamond for well over a year now, the 34-year old outfielder's name has recently come up in trade talks, according to reports.
The club recently restructured Cespedes' hefty contract. He was due to make almost $30 million prior to the amendment, but with his deal now viewed as being more "moveable," a few teams have checked in on the availability of the power-hitting Cuban.
It's not unfathomable that some team in-need of a power bat in the middle of their lineup could pull the trigger on a deal for La Potencia. One caveat to this trade speculation is the fact that Cespedes does possess a no-trade clause, so any deal the team makes would have to be signed off by the slugger.
Injuries have derailed Cespedes in recent years, but he batted .280 and clobbered 31 homers in his last full season in the MLB, which came in 2016 (though he still missed 30 games).
From a pure upside perspective, Cespedes could be one of the most intriguing trade candidates on the market this offseason, assuming New York makes him available.
