Dolphins Release Former Cowboys First-Round Pick Taco Charlton in Fairly Senseless Move
By Thomas Carannante
Unfortunately for Dallas Cowboys haters, they can't say much about the team's ability to draft. Jerry Jones and Co. have been lights out in that regard for what seems like the better part of two decades. After all, that's how they've been able to build their current stacked roster.
But we'd be remiss not to mention a couple of those mistakes peppered in with the success. After all, it's hard to forget about the Cowboys drafting Michigan defensive lineman Taco Charlton back in 2017. He's proven to be a bust through and through, especially since he just got released from his second NFL team.
Bet you probably didn't remember he was on the Dolphins! The 25-year-old is now a free agent after being dumped by Miami.
The Cowboys cut ties with him at the beginning of the 2019 season, after which he was claimed by the Dolphins, but it's clear (for whatever reason) that his career-high five sacks, two forced fumbles and 21 tackles across 10 games wasn't good enough for head coach Brian Flores.
Then again, Miami did sign Shaq Lawson and Emmanuel Ogbah in addition to drafting Raekwon Davis, Jason Strowbridge, Benito Jones, Ray Lima and Tyshun Render. How many defensive linemen do you possibly need in a single offseason?
All told, we should expect a new team to take a chance on Charlton after his encouraging 10-game showing with the Dolphins in 2019.
