VIDEO: Mariner's Mallex Smith Trading Friendly Trash Talk With Ken Griffey Jr. is the Best
By Sean Facey
Mallex Smith has quietly carved out a job for himself with the rebuilding Seattle Mariners. As a clubhouse personality and as a player, he's everything the team could ask for. His hilarious personality, though, was on full display when he was mic'd up and started chirping with Mariners legend Ken Griffey Jr., who was in the broadcast booth, in the middle of a Spring Training game.
Smith is known for being a speed demon and a hustle guy, and it's fantastic to hear him playfully chirping at a Hall of Famer like Griffey for not backing up first base from the outfield.
He also didn't hold back on Griffey's appearance, calling him "dad-ish."
The two of them have undeniably different careers, but they also have undeniable comedic chemistry.
This is what MLB needs more of. Mic'd up moments like these between current and former players makes the game infinitely more enjoyable to watch, and it gives players like Smith a chance to get some friendly digs in at the guys they grew up watching. More of this, please!
