VIDEO: Michael Chavis Tells Mid-Game Story About His Mom Yanking Him Off Field for Chucking Helmet
By Michael Luciano

Dorothy Nugent, the mother of Boston Red Sox infielder Michael Chavis, was adamant that if her son was going to be a baseball player, he was going to play the game the right way and never act petulant on the field. During a Red Sox Spring Training game, Chavis claimed that one time when he slammed his helmet on the ground during a game, his mom took him off the field and drove home with him. It's safe to say that Chavis never acted up again after that formative incident.

Nugent clearly was not bluffing. Her parenting methods might have been unusual, but it helped her son become a tremendous baseball player for a premier MLB franchise.
And yes, things have worked out pretty spectacularly.
Game-winning double on his first major league at-bat.
