Michael Conforto Activated From IL and in Mets Sunday Lineup
By Seth Carlson
The Mets will finally get an injury reprieve for this afternoon's game vs Detroit.
Outfielder Michael Conforto will be activated from the 7-day concussion IL and will bat third as well as play right field.
The Mets didn't seem to have many problems scoring runs and winning games without Conforto this week, sweeping the Nationals, scoring eight runs Friday night against the Tigers and five in Saturday night's walk-off win in 13 innings. However, no one is minimizing the impact Conforto's bat has on the lineup when he is at his best. For the season, he is hitting .271 with 9 home runs and a .926 OPS in 144 total at-bats so far.
Conforto suffered his concussion in Washington last week as he collided with also-injured 2B Robinson Cano on a fly ball in shallow right field.
The Mets have been decimated by injuries this May but have still managed to scrap together wins with replacement veterans. The team is hoping that Conforto's return to the lineup can help bridge a gap for the return of other bats including Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano and Brandon Nimmo.
