VIDEO: Michael Jordan Explains Story Behind Punching Steve Kerr in the Face at Bulls Practice
By Jerry Trotta
Prior to its release, Michael Jordan promised that "The Last Dance," ESPN's documentary series chronicling the Chicago Bulls' dynasty in the 1990s, would shed light on his darker side, and Sunday night's installment did just that. During episodes five and six, viewers were treated to an extensive dive into Jordan's gambling habits, including his trip to Atlantic City during the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals. Now, the 10-part series is set to transition to some of MJ's more polarizing acts on the hardwood. A sneak peek for episodes seven and eight was released on Tuesday, and it revealed the NBA legend explaining the infamous story behind the time he punched teammate Steve Kerr in the face during a practice.
Jordan's rage derived from head coach Phil Jackson calling "ticky-tack" fouls on Kerr, who was defending the five-time MVP during the practice. The 14-time All-Star tried to explain that referees wouldn't blow the whistle against a physical team like the New York Knicks, and that "protecting" Kerr would almost be counterproductive.
Kerr's anger grew as Jordan continued to trash talk on the court and he proceeded to shove No. 23. That's when MJ snapped and socked the future three-time NBA champion head coach in the face.
Do we really have to wait until Sunday to see the rest of this?
A fast forward button would be so convenient right now.
