Michigan Advances to First College World Series Finals in 57 Years With Win Over Texas Tech
By Michael Luciano
After a waiting for the better part of six decades to get back to the promised land, Erik Bakich and the Michigan Wolverines could finally take home some silverware in Omaha.
After shutting them out 3-0 in the first game of the series, Michigan whipped Josh Jung and Texas Tech by a resounding score of 15-3, which will send them to the finals against the winner of Vanderbilt vs Louisville.
While most of the attention pregame was focused on starter Karl Kauffmann and DH Jordan Nwogu, who was hitting .327 on the season, it was first baseman Jimmy Kerr who stole the spotlight. Kerr hit two home runs, while Jesse Franklin tied the school record in the College World Series with four RBIs.
Kauffmann twirled a solid game on the mound, going six innings while limiting a strong Red Raiders lineup to three runs.
Vanderbilt or Louisville are going to be a difficult challenge, the Wolverines deserve to rest on their laurels, as they are the best team this program has seen in almost 60 years.
