Michigan Hires Former Mississippi State and Tennessee Assistant Bob Shoop as Defensive Coordinator

Michigan may have found their guy to secure the defense and chase after an ever-elusive Big 10 title.

Former Mississippi State DC Bob Shoop is set to jump ship from the SEC and join the Big Ten as part of Jim Harbaugh's Wolverines' coaching staff.

With Don Brown looking to improve his defense which ranked 25th in the nation in points surrendered, Shoop could prove to be a meaningful addition.

Shoop has experience in the Big Ten as well, having served as defensive coordinator for Penn State under James Franklin in 2016.

During the 2018 season, with Shoop commanding the defense at Mississippi State, the Bulldogs owned the best scoring defense in the SEC.

Shoop can play an important role in replacing the suddenly-departed Anthony Campanile, after it was announced he'd be heading to the NFL to join Brian Flores' staff with the Miami Dolphins.

In the end, it may be this small change in personnel that finally helps vault Michigan into position to challenge for the National Championship.
