Michigan's Juwan Howard Refuses to Comment on California's New Pay for Play Bill
By Michael Luciano

Longtime NBA player and newly christened Michigan head coach Juwan Howard, who lived through being a highly touted college recruit that had money, gifts, and other benefits dangled in front of his face during his college career (dangled, at the very least, that is), isn't taking a stance on California's Pay for Play Bill.
In a first crack at commentary, Howard said that he doesn't understand the bill well enough to make an informed decision.
New Michigan coach Juwan Howard declined to comment on the California Pay for Play Bill. Said he doesn't have enough info on it to be able to talk about it yet.

Howard's Fab Five teammates, most notably Chris Webber, were famously involved in Ed Martin's money laundering scheme in which players were paid to launder money from a gambling operation.
This answer comes as a bit of a surprise, as you would think that a former superstar college player would sympathize with collegiate athletes looking to maximize their earnings.
Then again, Howard was hired only recently, and coming out in favor of a bill that the NCAA themselves, along with several prominent athletic directors, have come out against is a good way to earn yourself a great deal of ire from the higher ups.
Nobody is commenting. Pretty clear they were told to not say anything on the topic.

This new bill is certain to cause some tension and draw some lines in the sand across college athletics, but for right now, Howard is hanging out in the middle.
