Mickey Callaway Ruins Heartwarming Jeff McNeil-Puppy Moment With Highly Uncomfortable Comment
By Jerry Trotta
Prior to Friday evening's clash against the Pirates, several Mets players were treated with meeting four puppies from the North Shore Animal League. As expected, all parties involved were enamored with the adorable showing, but nobody was as delighted as Jeff McNeil.
The MLB's leading hitter picked up one particular pupper and proceeded to FaceTime his wife, pleading her to let him bring the dog home.
All McNeil needed was her approval and the heartfelt moment would have transformed into something significantly greater: a permanent, indescribable bond.
However, all the mushiness was ruined by one swift and alarmingly uncomfortable comment by Mickey Callaway.
New York's manager was (as most people would be) enticed by the plethora of puppies gallivanting in the field and walked over to his lead-off hitter. But there was only one problem: he completely disparaged the All-Star's manhood with one damning quote.
There's no doubting that Mick meant no harm by his comments. However, there's a time and a place. Who amongst us hasn't been made weak to the bone by man's best friend? Further, isn't McNeil being a proper and respectable husband by discussing the potential adoption with his wife before bringing the good-boy home?
Yes. A resounding, undeniable, yes.
Leave it to Callaway to somehow ruin this touching moment.
