Mickey Callaway's Explanation for Pete Alonso's Off Day Should Bug Mets Fans
By Parker White
The New York Mets have been playing great baseball lately, winning four-straight at the hands of another playoff hopeful, the Arizona Diamondbacks.
New York is only two games back of a Wild Card spot, and as many of you know, every game at this juncture of the season matters. So, why is the Mets' best player Pete Alonso getting the night off against the Los Angeles Dodgers?
You won't like manager Mickey Callaway's explanation.
He looked fatigued? Of course he is!
It's September and Alonso has been carrying this team on his back just about all season... as a rookie. You can understand giving Alonso a day off, but why wasn't it Thursday in the series finale against Arizona?
Their series against the Diamondbacks was vitally important, as Arizona has been hot and are still in the Wild Card hunt, but the Mets had a better job beating them without Alonso than tonight against Kershaw and the mighty Dodgers.
I'd hate to have a ticket for Friday night's game at Citi Field and Polar Bear Pete isn't out there. What a moronic decision.
