VIDEO: Miguel Andujar Cranks Home Run in Long-Awaited Return to Yankees Lineup
The New York Yankees were without Miguel Andujar for much of the 2019 season. He appeared in a total of 12 games before he opted for shoulder surgery in May after several stints on the injured list. The 24-year-old is back Sunday afternoon, however, and made his long-awaited return in a spring training matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays. What did he do? Crushed a home run in the fifth inning.
A healthy Andujar would firmly set him in the role of designated hitter after Gio Urshela cemented himself as a great defensive option at third base. His return almost seems like a new offseason addition after he missed nearly all of 2019.
But the team is also trying him out in the outfield and at first base to create more opportunities. He slashed .297/.328/.527 in 2018 with 27 home runs and 92 RBI. He also had 47 doubles and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting.
Let's see how he'll build upon that in 2020.
