Miguel Andujar to Make Outfield Debut in Wednesday Spring Training Game vs Nationals
By Adam Weinrib
It's happening!
In some capacity, at least!!
After breaking out in 2018 (on offense, specifically), Rookie of the Year runner up Miguel Andujar lost his position to defensive wizard Gio Urshela while he was on the shelf in '19. It didn't hurt, of course, that Urshela also hit .314 with 21 homers, against all odds. Prior to the 2020 season, though, Andujar is healthy AND open to experimentation to get his helicopter bat into the order more often than not. He's been working in the outfield, and Yankee fans can witness the fruits of his labor for the first time in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
Not for nothing, but peep that right fielder, too! Clint Frazier on the opposite side?! The Yankees would be hard-pressed to find a weirder pair of defensive corner outfielders, but they also like to live dangerously, so it's truly all good.
All jokes aside, Slam-dujar has 30-homer power, and showed it off already in his Spring Training debut, accidentally slicing one out to the opposite field against the Rays.
Rumor has it he's looked highly competent during early outfield work, and the world will find out on Wednesday whether or not that report is accurate.
