Miguel Sano Postpones Press Conference to Address Wild Kidnapping Allegations
Miguel Sano is a key piece in the Minnesota Twins lineup and has high expectations attached to his name if, and hopefully when, there is a 2020 MLB season.
Yet the recent news surrounding him has nothing to do with baseball. Sano is facing serious kidnapping allegations in the Dominican Republic, which he claims are all blackmail. Minnesota's third-sacker set up a press conference to talk about it late on Wednesday, but the Twins shut that down fast.
The allegations are that Sano and others kidnapped and severely beat a man early in May.
Even if it is totally false, the Twins are smart to do their own investigating and not have Sano make the issue worse by making any statements in the media.
The allegations are serious and must be treated as such until more is known by the team.
Sano posted a new career-high in WAR last season and was expected to be a big contributor in 2020. These allegations turning out to be true (and unjustified) would send his career in the opposite direction.
