VIDEO: Mika Zibanejad Scores 5 Goals Including Overtime Winner as Rangers Down Capitals
By Mark Powell
Mika Zibanejad now has 20 goals in his last 19 games. Of course, that stat's a little inflated after his performance on Thursday night against the Washington Capitals. The 26-year-old Swedish winger notched five (5) goals against the Caps at the Garden, becoming just the third New York Ranger to record such a game in the franchise's illustrious history. Such a performance -- truly unique in an error of smaller goal-space and larger goalie equipment -- included an electric game-winner in front of a truly appreciative crowd.
Zibanejad scored the first two goals, three out of four and eventually the final tally needed to record a vital two points. With the win, the Rangers are just two points out of the final Eastern Conference Wild Card spot with a game in hand behind the crosstown Islanders. With 15 contests remaining, we may look back at Zibanejad's performance as season-altering should New York reach the playoffs in their first season since pairing Artemi Panarin, Kappo Kaako and Jacob Trouba.
