Mike Ditka Will Manage Season Opener for Chicago Independent Minor League Baseball Team

An independent minor league baseball team in Chicago is calling upon one of the city's most iconic figures to start their 2020 season off with a bang.
The Chicago Dogs, who play in the American Association of Independent Baseball, have announced that legendary Chicago Bears head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka has signed a one-day contract to manage the team for their first home game of the year in May.
Specifically, the Super Bowl-winning coach will co-manage alongside the team's usual skipper, Butch Hobson.
In addition to having Ditka in the dugout, the Dogs will also be giving away hilarious bobbleheads featuring the man himself and his iconic sweater customized in the teams colors. The Dogs' players will wear special vest-style uniforms for the game as well.
You'd really be hard-pressed to find any type of promotion that appeals more to the Chicago sports fan than this. From the coach himself to the bobblehead, it's all perfect.
But most important to watch will be how Ditka handles himself around the baseball team. Perhaps the fans will get to see a glimpse of the leadership and motivational skills that made his time with the Bears so successful.
With the Chicago Cubs struggling to keep their fans in the highest possible spirits for the new season, it's reassuring to see that a different Chicago baseball team has picked up the slack to make the fan experience more appealing.
