Mike McCarthy has been hard at work rounding out his first staff as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and he's reportedly bringing on a familiar face to help him make the transition.

Scott Tolzien, who spent three seasons with McCarthy's Green Bay Packers as a reserve quarterback, is joining up in Big D with the official title of "coaching assistant." The news was first reported by Mike Fisher of radio station 105.3 The Fan.

A two-year starter and All-Big Ten Second Team quarterback in college at Wisconsin, Tolzien was undrafted in 2011 and went on to be rostered by the Chargers, 49ers, Packers, and Colts. He was drafted by the AAF's Birmingham Iron before retiring from the game in early 2019 before the now-defunct league debuted.

For his pro career, he finished with 88 completions on 146 attempts for 1,065 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Tolzien spent the past season with his alma mater's scouting department in Madison. Now, at age 32, he's back with Mike McCarthy for a new adventure.
