Mike McCarthy Backing Dak Prescott Proves Cowboys-Tom Brady Rumors Are Baseless Noise
By Jack Murphy
Dak Prescott's future with the Dallas Cowboys has been uncertain of late. Many are wondering if the 26-year-old gunslinger is going to agree on a massive contract extension, or if the Cowboys are going to slap the franchise tag on their signal caller. Some have even suggested that six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady will become the next quarterback for Dallas.
However, after comments made by new Cowboys' head coach Mike McCarthy in support of his quarterback, we should put the Brady rumors to bed.
The Cowboys are not expected to get in serious talks with Prescott and his agent until after the dispute of the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement is settled, but McCarthy believes that Prescott is in Dallas' future plans. It would seem asinine for the Cowboys, then, to make Brady their top priority.
Prescott reportedly turned down $33 million per year prior to the start of the 2019 season. The risk Prescott took on himself paid off, as he had the best season of his career, despite missing the playoffs.
The biggest takeaway from McCarthy's opinions on Prescott is that he wants him to be the Cowboys quarterback moving forward. The Cowboys would be much better off with a 26-year-old coming off of a career year, rather than a 43-year-old who may only have a couple years left in the tank.
