Mike McCarthy Naming Rob Davis an Assistant in Surprising Decision
By Alex Coffman

Mike McCarthy has high expectations entering his first season at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys, which is why his latest hire is a bit of a surprise to most.
McCarthy has inked former Green Bay Packers executive Rob Davis to the coaching staff, in a rather significant role, as assistant head coach, according to reports.
Rob Davis has not only joined Mike McCarthy's coaching staff in Dallas but his title is assistant head coach, sources said. A surprise considering he's never actually been on a coaching staff. He was director of player development with the Packers,... https://t.co/Fs0s9BkIx6

What's so surprising about the hire? Davis has never worked on a coaching staff in the NFL before.
He has worked as an executive for nine years with the Packers but left in 2017 to pursue other business endeavors. His exit from the Packers was surprising and even more so when he spoke out last fall, telling local papers "I've always thought I was a coach at heart."
Well, Davis' former coworker will be the one to give him his first foray into coaching, as the pair re-unite in Dallas.
This seems an awful lot like Mike McCarthy really values Rob Davis and wants him involved however he can get him in. https://t.co/NAwWC03y4D

Clearly McCarthy thinks highly of Davis, evidenced by the impactful role he hired him to, which will see the two work in close proximity. Hopefully this moves pays off for McCarthy and Co.
