Coach Mike Napoli Shows up to Cubs Spring Training With Monster Beard
By Sean Facey
Mike Napoli is headed into the 2020 season as one of the fresh new faces on David Ross' coaching staff for the Chicago Cubs. The only problem is you can't actually see his face.
The former 12-year MLB veteran rolled into camp with an absolute behemoth of a beard the likes of which is better suited to someone like Gandalf.
That thing looks less like a beard and more like a patch of grass that has gone uncut for 16 months.
Of course, massive beards are par for the course for Napoli. Throughout his career, he's been known to grow out his facial hair with gusto.
But as a quality assurance coach, few people are better for the job than him. He finished his career with a respectable .821 OPS and 267 career home runs with a lengthy postseason resume to boot.
He's got plenty of wisdom to share with this team. Who knows, perhaps he can even teach some of the guys how to grow out a beard just like him in the event that they have to stop shaving in October.
