Mike Tauchman's Stats Since Being Recalled by the Yankees Will Absolutely Blow Your Mind
By Michael Luciano
Acquired from the Colorado Rockies in a trade just before the start of the season, most expected Yankees outfielder Mike Tauchman to be nothing more than organizational depth and a star with the Triple-A team in Scranton. Instead, he has leapfrogged Clint Frazier in the outfield pecking order and has been scalding hot ever since April ended.
After hitting just .177 in April, Tauchman is batting .397 since May 5 and has a sparkling .472 on-base percentage, both of which are the best in baseball in that time span.
While at-bats against left-handed pitching have been hard to come by, Tauchman is hitting an unreal .448 (13-for-29) against southpaws.
In just 10 July games, Tauchman has 14 hits, 5 extra-base hits, and 2 home runs. In the span of two months, he went from Triple-A outfielder, to cringe-worthy MLB at-bat, to savior of the Yankees getting big hits in crunch time.
Moves like the acquisition of Tauchman for Phillip Diehl, who gave up four runs in two MLB innings and has a 5.76 ERA with Triple-A Albuquerque, are why Brian Cashman remains a cut above almost all other MLB GMs. His ability to not only identify talent, but give them opportunity to prove themselves, has enabled the Yankees to remain competitive year in and year out.
