VIDEO: Compilation of Minkah Fitzpatrick Highlights With Steelers Proves Pittsburgh Won Trade With Dolphins
By Michael Luciano
The Miami Dolphins, currently on the ground floor of a serious rebuild, apparently had no use for a 6-1, 205-pound defensive back who was a superstar in college, produced in his rookie season, and can line up basically anywhere on defense. Miami traded former Alabama star and 2018 No. 13 overall pick Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Pittsburgh Steelers, with whom he immediately tapped into his vast stores of potential and had the best season a Steelers safety has had since Troy Polamalu.
Fitzpatrick recorded 80 tackes and picked off two passes during his first season in Miami, but he was traded to Pittsburgh for what became the No. 18 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
All Fitzpatrick did was earn a First-Team All-Pro selection, as he made 69 tackles, intercepted five passes, recovered three fumbles, and scored two defensive touchdowns. At just 23 years old, the scary thing about Fitzpatrick is that he's only going to improve. Imagine what he'll do for an encore next season.
Anyone who knows even a little bit about defensive football knew that Fitzpatrick was on track to be a superstar in the NFL. Miami didn't think he was fit to be a part of their rebuild, while Pittsburgh realized the transformative effect he could have on their defense.
