Mitchell Trubisky Out of Excuses After Bears Offensive Coaching Staff Hires
Mitchell Trubisky has not exactly lived up to being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Chicago Bears fans are left wondering how life would be different if the team had taken Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson.
Trubisky has had several coaches try to help him out in his three seasons and changes have once again been made this offseason. Surely, this group can do better than Mark Helfrich.
John DeFilippo will be the latest offensive mind coming to Chicago to try to finally get Trubisky going and playing at an elite level, or even just an above-average level. Paired with new OC Bill Lazor, they hope to unlock Trubisky's true potential.
At some point the blame is going to fall on the quarterback. If these guys can't turn him around, we won't be able to blame the Bears for not giving the UNC product a chance to learn under the best.
Trubisky finished the 2019 season with 3,138 passing yards and only 17 touchdowns. He was the king of the dink-and-dunk and some defended him by blaming the play-calling. Others blamed him for not being capable of doing more.
The new coaching staff will do their best to help the young quarterback, but he is officially out of excuses if he struggles at the start of the season. The Bears will likely bring in an experienced backup and someone who can step in if needed.
If Trubisky is benched and his fifth-year option is declined, the Bears may have to trade up for yet another quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft. Matt Nagy hopes it doesn't come to that.
