MLB Drops the Hammer With Suspensions From Reds-Pirates Brawl
By Thomas Carannante
Joe Torre is not messing around in the wake of the second installment of the brawl between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was a truly ugly scene on Tuesday when these division rivals went at it again in what was quite possibly the most violent baseball fight we've seen in some time. As a result, a number of these guys will be on the shelf for a good while.
Keone Kela leads the way, considering he's the reason this all began although Amir Garrett took it to the next level by charging the Pirates dugout and trying to fight the entire team without help from any of his teammates.
Unfortunately for the Cleveland Indians, the recently-acquired Yasiel Puig will be on the shelf for the first three games with his new team for his role in the ordeal.
The MLB also released explanations as to why each of these players received their ban.
The Reds will also be without their skipper David Bell for six games after he was ejected and then returned back to the field of play to cause a ruckus. Clint Hurdle's been suspended two games for his club's repeated beaning of the Reds and Derek Dietrich.
We'd like to think nobody will appeal given how obvious all of their roles in this were, but you can expect one of the guys that got higher bans to at least attempt to reduce their punishment.
