MLB Execs Think Francisco Lindor and Kris Bryant Are More Likely to Be Traded Than Mookie Betts
By Scott Rogust
MLB's general manager meetings are over, and the much-anticipated winter meetings will take place shortly. While many are looking at where the likes of Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon and Stephen Strasburg will sign in free agency, you can't forget about the potential trades.
ESPN held an anonymous survey that asks the biggest offseason questions, which were answered by 15 baseball executives and insiders. One of the sections included who was most likely to be traded between Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Kris Bryant.
Lindor received eight votes, Bryant seven, and Betts a big fat zero.
Betts is set to hit free agency next year and the fact that the anonymous voters don't believe he'll be traded is intriguing. Bryant's free agency hinges on a service time grievance, and Lindor hits free agency at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
The Red Sox outfielder has been the subject of trade rumors ever since the team was eliminated from postseason contention. With their farm system depleted, trading Betts would help replenish it, but not by much, due to him hitting the open market at the end of next season.
Lindor appears the most likely to move, as the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are already linked to the young shortstop. Meanwhile, the Chicago Cubs are desperately trying to make a big move this offseason, with Bryant's name being brought up the most.
Those in the know think Betts will remain a member of the Boston Red Sox, but who knows what new GM Chaim Bloom has up his sleeve.
