MLB Free Agent Spending Stat Should Infuriate Cubs Fans

Being paired with the Pittsburgh Pirates in terms of offseason spending habits is never a good sign. For the Cubs, it's downright embarrassing, especially after failing to reach their postseason aspirations in 2019.

The North Siders seem to be accepting that their recent string of playoff success with this current corps is behind them, despite most of those very players being younger than 30.

Chicago shouldn't have any major limitations on offseason spending, despite how cheap the Ricketts' family have become and the year-over-year Wrigley Field renovations. There is no excuse for this:

Meanwhile, Nicholas Castellanos remains in free agency, waiting for a bite despite the fact he nearly carried the Cubs back to relevancy on his own. Instead, the likes of the Rangers continue to grow as a viable option for his services.

Yeah, it took us some getting used to as well.

It's okay to cut back on spending in today's MLB. But doing so while lying to a fanbase that just four years ago won their first World Series in over a century is downright diabolical.

Cubs fans will support the team regardless of the product on the field. Yet, expecting even the slightest of upgrade year over year shouldn't be too much to ask from Epstein and Co.
