Herrera was arrested in Atlantic City on Monday night after an alleged violent incident between him and his 20-year-old girlfriend.
The swift decision to place him on administrative leave is a clear sign that the league is taking the situation seriously.
Philadelphia's center fielder could be out for as many as seven days while the league determines the nature of the situation and the best course of action. It's possible that the league could extend this period past seven days if need be.

While Herrera waits on the bench, Scott Kingery is expected to take over his spot in the lineup.
