MLB Insider Confirms Trevor Plouffe's Leak About Potential Opening Day Target and Fans Should Get Excited
By Michael Luciano

MLB fans that are pleading for the return of their favorite sport were given a brief glimmer of hope when former MLB infielder Trevor Plouffe claimed to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Plouffe cited a source this week that informed him the league is targeting a June 10 Spring Training restart and a July 1 start to the season.
Ken Rosenthal confirmed that Plouffe's story was partially true, as one organization, the Cleveland Indians, gave players a "mark in the sand" on Tuesday and stated Opening Day would be on July 1.
The Indians have also stated that July 1st is the target date for Opening Day, but there are still many obstacles to overcome. #MLB2020 #MLBUpdate #Covid19Update #ClevelandIndians #KenRosenthal #TheAthletic pic.twitter.com/0NCQRAZekt

While the Indians, and most team executives, are confident that MLB will return at some point this season, there are a few major obstacles that the league needs to worry about first.
The main worry that could prevent the season from restarting is the potential for outbreaks to arise in Florida, Texas, and Arizona, which have been mentioned as potential hubs for playing games if playing in every team's home stadium isn't considered feasible.
Potential HUGE news: Per @trevorplouffe the MLB will begin a 2nd Spring Training on June 10 with Opening Day of the regular season will take place July 1st with all teams playing at their home ballparks. pic.twitter.com/9E7d4V7frf

While the Indians are clearly optimistic about baseball coming back in about a month or so, the hay isn't in the barn by any stretch of the imagination. While Plouffe's leak is encouraging, baseball fans need to keep practicing social distancing to minimize the potential of a new outbreak starting up.
At least, though, it's now clear that July 1 is being spread as a target. Let's hope it can be met.
