MLB Insider Reveals What Kind of Trade Package it Might Take to Land Cubs' Kris Bryant
By Scott Rogust
Oh, how the times have changed for the Chicago Cubs. Usually buyers at the MLB Winter Meetings, the Cubbies are looking to bolster their farm system and shed payroll. Their best option of doing so is by trading third baseman Kris Bryant, who's due for a new contract in the very near future.
So what would it take the Cubs to willingly part ways with Bryant?
MLB insider David O'Brien revealed Chicago is looking for two pitching prospects and a bat to complete the deal.
The Cubs and Bryant are currently awaiting the decision of a grievance hearing regarding the former 2016 NL MVP's service time manipulation. If they rule in Chicago's favor, Bryant would be under team control for the next two years. But if Bryant wins the hearing, he'd be set to hit free agency after next season.
Even so, it's not expected to delay the Cubs' intentions of moving on from Bryant. With Anthony Rendon signed and Josh Donaldson commanding a hefty amount in free agency, Bryant would serve as a "Plan B" for those teams.
Some teams rumored to be in on Bryant include the Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Atlanta Braves.
While the Cubs seem intent on trading Bryant, they'll only do so if teams meet their demands. And to be honest, it's not all that outrageous, so someone should hop on the opportunity.
