MLB Must Figure Out a Plan to Reward LA After Dodgers Get Officially Robbed of 2020 All-Star Game
By Tyler Kemp
It seems like no matter what they do, the Dodgers can never catch a break. First, they lose back-to-back World Series to teams that had sign stealing allegations. Now, the aftereffects of COVID-19 have taken away a very special day in LA's baseball history.
The state of California has been one of the most heavily affected places in America during this pandemic. The government is obviously putting an emphasis on the health of people in the state before even considering the option of hosting festivities in the city. One of those festivities that was going to be hosted in the City of Angels was the MLB All Star Game in Dodger Stadium, which has now been scrapped (officially) after the city's stay-at-home order was formally extended through July.
Just because we all expected this doesn't make it hurt any less, and the league needs to come up with a creative solution to this problem, in order to make sure time is adequately saved for Vin Scully and Tommy Lasorda to be ambassadors in the years to come.
The Dodgers have recently gotten the short end of the stick and, through no fault of the organization, Dodger Stadium will not be allowed to celebrate the best and brightest of the sport in July.
Moving the ASG to Dodger Stadium in 2022 could be a possibility, allowing Atlanta to still host their scheduled contest next summer. If that doesn't work, and MLB wants to think quickly, it can block out a certain stretch of days in the newly-planned schedule in order to get all of the stars of the game to play at Dodger Stadium for a night this fall.
We'd rather just go full-throttle and move things to '22, however. Hopefully, the league can make it work.
