MLB's Constant Disrespect Towards Gleyber Torres in 'Young Stars' Conversation is Getting Ridiculous
By Chris Pyo
Whoever handles Major League Baseball's social media accounts should rethink some of their latest posts, including one focused on up-and-coming young stars that have taken the league by storm.
Recently, the official Twitter account of the MLB posted a photo gallery showing Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Ronald Acuña, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a caption reading "FUTURE."
That's a nice cultural reference to SpongeBob SquarePants right there, and kudos to MLB for doing its best to appeal to the youth. However, where in the world is Gleyber Torres in this post? This ain't the first time the league has forgotten him in this conversation.
Before accusations are thrown over how biased of a question that might seemingly be, let's consider why someone with 15 homers and 69 RBI was put on this list over another youthful player who plays on the most watched team in the world and led them to a playoff appearance last year, not to mention his 38 home runs and 90 RBI's.
Also, of course, neither of the Rookie of the Year winners are included on this tweet. Mets and Astros fans are definitely questioning why Pete Alonso and Yordan Alvarez aren't included in this tweet regarding young stars.
Either way, it's time for MLB to stop disrespecting Gleyber and acknowledge him within the "young stars" conversation. He's freshly 23 years old and thriving in perhaps the most famous and scrutinized baseball city in the world. He deserves some recognition for that, even on something as mundane as social media.
He's certainly had a larger impact than Bo Bichette. Keep sleeping, though.
