MLB Trade Deadline Rumors: Tigers
With the Detroit Tigers in the basement of the MLB and only a few games better than the abysmal Orioles, the team is expected to be major sellers at the deadline.
Detroit has enticing pitching pieces like Matthew Boyd and Shane Greene both available for trade, and a couple deals could jump start its rebuild in the coming weeks.
The biggest fish the Tigers have to offer is Boyd, who is one of the few bright spots in the Tigers' season. Boyd should garner attention from every team looking to add a left-handed starter, including the Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers, Braves and Rays.
This season, Boyd is posting a 6-7 record with a 3.95 ERA in 19 starts. Even more than Boyd having a breakout season, he's under team control until 2022. Guys with that combination of stats and contract will typically cost a haul for any team looking to acquire his services.
The other major name on the market for the Tigers is Greene, who is having an impressive season in Detroit's bullpen. Although relievers don't typically net a great return, Greene's 22 saves and 1.04 ERA is the exception.
With bullpens struggling across the league this season, Greene will be a hot commodity for any contending team looking to sure-up their bullpen. The Braves, Phillies, Mets, Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs are all rumored to be interested.
The Tigers have no future this season, but a couple moves at the deadline could point Detroit in the right direction heading into next season and beyond.
