Monday Night Football Somehow Registers Largest Viewership Since 2015
By Sean Facey
This year's Monday Night Football slate turned out to be the stuff of legends in the worst possible way. Fans were treated to some pitifully bad games featuring teams like the New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins. Even the 1-14 Cincinnati Bengals made an appearance.
By most objective standards, Monday Night Football seemed to feature the worst possible matchups on a weekly basis, replete with an oft-criticized set of commentators in Booger McFarland and Joe Tessitore, and that's why it comes as a major surprise that the broadcast earned its largest viewership since 2015.
It almost seems impossible, especially looking back at the slate of games it featured.
There were six separate occasions where a team failed to score more than seven points. The Jets, in their two appearances combined, managed just one field goal!
There were also only four games where the margin of victory was less than seven points. In retrospect, there were almost no appetizing, closely-contested games on this year's schedule. Chances were that if you tuned into a Monday Night Football game, you were watching a blowout snoozefest.
Against all the odds, though, people tuned in. On a weekly basis, fans watched some of the most lopsided and ludicrous football the NFL had to offer this year.
And Monday Night Football reaped the rewards.
