Mookie Betts' Latest Quote After Carl Yastrzemski's Return Makes it Seem Like He's Super Gone
By Parker White

This month, the Boston Red Sox have honored a couple of legends at Fenway Park, including David Ortiz throwing out the first pitch and celebrating Carl Yastrzemski when his grandson came to town with the Giants.
Those were two historic moments that caught the eye of Red Sox superstar Mookie Betts. But did it sway him in any way in terms of signing an extension?
Mookie Betts appreciated the chance to see how Fenway received and celebrated Yaz and Ortiz, iconic Red Sox. But their heroes’ welcome ‘doesn’t sway me. ... You can be remembered in that same fashion even if you put on a couple different jerseys’ https://t.co/dMi8yHzpdh

"It’s pretty cool that they have their career in one place, but you can be remembered in that same fashion even if you put on a couple different jerseys,” said Betts. “It definitely doesn’t hurt to only put on one jersey . . . [But the Yastrzemski celebration] doesn’t sway me [about the future] one way or the other.”
That would be an emphatic no.
Either there’s something I am missing here or Mookie Betts wants to leave Boston. This is a potential future HOF player and Boston did something that swayed him the other way. Very odd. https://t.co/oJB1YhOZ4E

No wonder Boston will listen to trade offers for Betts this winter. If he's not going to sign an extension, it's a clear sign he wants to be a free agent and sign a Mike Trout-like contract with a new club.
Betts thinks he'll receive a nice reception down the road even if he wears another jersey. Maybe he's right, but I wouldn't count on it.
